Battle of Loos, France, World War I, 1915
Battle of Loos, France, World War I, 1915. Scottish regiments charging and overwhelming German trenches. The Battle of Loos was a major British offensive on the Western Front, which began on September 25 1915. After early successes, supply and communications problems and a stiffening of German resistance meant that the advance ground to a halt. The battle ended on September 28 when the British retreated to their original positions having suffered some 50, 000 casualties
