Framed advertisement for a World Heavyweight Championship boxing match between the African-American Joe Louis (1914-1981) and the German Max Schmeling (1905-2005), heavyweight champion of the world between 1930 and 1932. Louis won with a knockout in the first round. As a contest between representatives of the United States and Nazi Germany during the 1930s, the fight came to symbolise the struggle between democracy and Nazism.
