British Prime Minister Spencer Perceval was shot and killed in the lobby of the House of Commons by John Bellingham, a merchant who had been wrongly imprisoned in Russia. He bore a grievance against the British government after it had rejected his petitions for compensation. Bellingham was hanged in public three days after being found guilty
