Communications carrier used by Neil Armstrong, Apollo 11, 1949. Headset used by astronaut Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969. Communications carriers were worn during launch and the mission, and were affectionately known as the " Snoopy Cap" from its resemblance to a famous cartoon character of the era. It was constructed of an elastic center portion with Teflon fabric sides containing the communications equipment and mouthpiece. It fastened beneath the chin and was worn during the launch sequence, while in the lunar module, and on the lunar surface
